OVERVIEW

What happens when open-water athletes can no longer trust the water around them?

This speculative project responds to concerns around water quality during the Paris Olympics. It imagines a future in which swimmers need personal filtration equipment to enter increasingly contaminated aquatic environments.

Background, Desk Research and Analysis

Despite significant investment by the Paris city government to improve the Seine River's water quality for the Olympic triathlon, the standards were not met. The French people believe that this money should be spent on improving people's daily lives. The French government believes that it is right to invest a lot of money in improving the water quality of the Seine River. Despite the serious harm from water pollution, few governments are willing to tackle it due to the high costs. Background Desk Research billion euros in purchasing power 60 30 suites can be purchased apartments 933 can be purchased villas 233 Analysis Problem Summary What Happened What I Found Government Views Social Media The impact of water pollution on human body. The Seine River was blocked by a large amount of garbage. Hundreds of kilograms of rubbish may enter the Seine every day. Large amounts of domestic sewage are discharged into the Seine. Brain: Neurodevelopment Heart: High blood pressure and arrhythmias in humans. Lungs: Respiratory infections and pneumonia in humans. Stomach: Chronic gastritis and gastric cancer in humans. Intestine: Diarrhea, enteritis and bowel cancer in humans. E. coli, Salmonella, Norovirus

Case Study, About the Future and Concept

During the Olympics in Japan, contaminated water made many athletes sick. The Japanese government discharged low-cost treated nuclear wastewater into the ocean, causing severe marine environmental damage. Water quality management is costly, so the Japanese government has been passive in treating sewage. Case Study About The Future Concept Current pollutants that affect people and how to deal with them. Design a wearable device for swimmers that meets the following conditions. Japanese Olympic water quality incident. What does the future look like for Olympic triathlon? What effect will sewage have on the future? What effect does sewage have on athletes? Will future Olympic athletes need to wear special gear? SAFETY PORTABLE ENVIRONMENTALPROTECTION Algae can improve water quality. TRASH HEAVY METALS CARRION ODOR Ultraviolet Rays efficiency reduces the number of bacteria. Activated Carbon can improve sewage odor. Chemical Oxidation can break down pathogenic microorganisms and toxic substances.

The activated carbon filter box filters impurities from the blood. Valves regulate the flow of blood. After 3d printing, it is polished and painted. Arduino code

FINAL OUTCOME

A WEARABLE WARNING ABOUT THE FUTURE OF WATER

The final proposal is shown in both digital and physical form. Placing the system directly on the body turns an environmental problem into an immediate human experience and asks what athletes may be required to wear in a polluted future.
